2007 Calendar

June 2nd YES! has been invited to the Ranch Hands (Sertoma) Ranch and park for a day of music, barbeque and fun near Dade City.  We need to know who would like to go and arrange for some driving help.  Please let us know as soon as possible since it will take some arranging for all to attend.  Call 935-5696 and tell Jen at the YES! Center.

June 8-10 is the family café in Orlando.  As many of you have reported to YES! you are register but did not get a room.  YES! is working on providing rooms for those who wish to come and attend the different breakouts.  We need you to call 935 5696 so that we can start setting up details for those who wish to attend this event.

June 28th YES! I can Educate meeting at the YES! Center.  Quest speaker Linda Gross from the vocational rehabilitation.  Come and ask questions about how VR can assist you.

July 3rd, 11 to 1 at the YES! Center craft day and we will be making “firecrackers” for the 4th of July holiday.  Come and enjoy this activity

July 4th YES! will be closed for the celebration of the Independence of our country.

July 5th 10 to 12 will be a meeting of the committee for developing trainings, outings, and programming for YES! for the 2007-2008 grant period

July 9th Justin will be doing the computer classes so please sign up with him for the month of July.  We will be only be allowing 4 students for each class.  During these times there will not be open computer use.  If you need to use the computers for entertainment or personal use they will be available on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, on a rotation bases.

July there will be no Project Connect meetings.

July 13th YES! is offering CPR and first aid classes to our members.  There are 5 slots open for YES! members there are other slots available for a fee which will certify you.  It is from 10 to 3. Please contact the YES! office for more details.

June 31st 10 to 12 is the second Awareness meeting of the class.  We will be focusing on who, what , where, and how of our awareness outreach.

July during the month we will be having movie days, reading programming, art activities, and a dance.  Keep watching your emails for these events.

YES! will be moving this month so events at the YES! Center will be tentative so call for updates.

August 27th is Movie Day at YES! come in and enjoy an afternoon of good entertainment and popcorn.

August 30th is YES! I can Educate Meeting and we have Marie and Eileen leading a discussion on diversity and how it affects us and how we need to understand how to discuss this in our community.

August 31st Birthday party for the August birthdays at the YES! Center 1 to 4.  Please bring a side dish to share with the group and your dancing shoes on.  Call YES! for more details.

Sept. 4 and 11th  Computer classes 10 to 12 and 1 to 3.  We have 3 spots available so please sign up by calling YES! for your spot in advance.

Sept. 5th YES! I can Cook Classes from 12 to 1 and 1:30 to 2:30. Please sign up a week in advance  by calling YES! so we can have supplies. Also please to on time since we have to start at the appointed times.

Sept. 5th Project Connect (We will now be meeting every other month on the first Wednesday of the month from 12:00 to 2:00.  Considering that we will only be meeting six times a year, it is important that we make the most of the shortened time.  IPlease notify me of your attendance.  Tara recommended that a certain number of members, representing different agencies, participate in the development of the PATH.  She has
requested that I send her a RSVP list five days prior to the meeting. So please let me know.

Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, September 5th from 12:00 to 2:00 at Nova Southeastern University.  Please feel free to bring your lunch).

Sept. 14th the Petting Zoo from Lowry Park will visit YES! in our preparation for visiting the zoo the end of the month. Make sure you sign up now for the day you want.  There is limited space.

Sept. 15 Justice Ministry  will be having a conference/workshop with Hope on being advocates for all.  Call Rachel 221-0130 for more details.  It is a good time to join as believers in this outreach.

Sept. 19th Mayor¡¦s Alliance at 601 N. Nebraska Ave. 2 to 4 This is a joint meeting of both Alliances and will be discussing the updates on Transportation.

Sept. 20th YES! is hosting a community CPR and First Aid class from 10 to 3 at the YES! Center.  It  will help to meet the needs for those who need the certification for your job.  If you are a member of YES! Your class is free for those non members it is $50.  Please sign up at YES! of America United INC.

Sept. 21st YES! is hosting the HIV certification class. It is from
10 to 12:30  for a fee pf $25 and again 5  members from YES! may go free.  Please sign up at the YES! center.

Sept. 24, 25, and 26 YES! and Lowry Park are partnering for an event at the Zoo.  We will meet at 10 a.m. and have a tour.  After the tour you can spend the rest of the day exploring on your own. This is a sign up first served at YES! anyone over the age of 3 needs to sign up for a space. Only 30 spaces available each of these days. Meet at Education Building on the East side of the Zoo by North Blvd. Remember to wear your YES! Shirts.

Oct. 15th is White Cane Day.  We will be working with the Collaboration and NFB for an event downtown.  Contact Gloria Mills for more information on the walk and the Downtown Partnership for more details on the Mobility Awareness Tour.  (This is for those who do not have a disability to experience some of the barriers that individuals with disabilities face as they navigate our streets.)

Oct. 17th National Mentoring Day for those who want to shadow someone at a job that they would like to work .  Call Sandra Sroka for more information.  Registration is required. 276-2742, Tampa Learning Connections Is offering a two hour workshop on Suicide Prevention. Learn about what signs to look for? Understand the scope of this issue and learn proven techniques you can use to help those struggling with suicidal thinking. Nov. 3rd at 1 PM, the Library offers a special Teen program THE MANGA WORKSHOP at the Library as Leah Lopez, a local teen artist, demonstrates how to draw manga cartoons, a new art form popular with young people.  This free program is for ages 12 and up; Seating limit 95. Cosponsored by the Friends of the Jimmie B. Keel Regional Library.

Enjoy Light Refreshments and Door Prizes!  FDamilies and friends of ESE students the opportunity to enjoy and learn in this fun and interactive presentation in which Millie Pou, from Central Florida Parent Center, will take participants through the fast-paced game of IEP Jeopardy. Categories include: So What’s the Big IDEA, Evaluation and Eligibility, The IEP Meeting, Paperwork, Goals, and Finding Solutions.

Nov. 5th YES! will be moving our computers into our new partnership location at 9502 N. Florida Ave.  Our classes will be starting soon after.  At the present we are planning Tues. morning for beginners 10 to 12 and Thursday more advanced individuals 10 to 12.  YES! is planning on having open computer use on Wed. 11 to 2.  We also are working on our reading program and art program with our partners.  Orientation will be announced before the programs will be offered to individuals.  Call Becki for more information.

At the present if you are in need of help reading or getting your GED we have partnership with the I Can Adult Literacy program.  If you need a referral please call the YES! number.

    This event is scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2007 at the Apopka Airport. This is the second annual event for the Orlando community.
    Participant/Child Registration:
    a.      Any child or young adult with a physical challenge or serious illness is encouraged to pre-register on-line at www.challengeair.org. All past participants are also encouraged to pre-register. If you know of any other qualifying children, please direct them to the web site. Additionally, if you know of any organizations serving the same population of children and youth, please let us know so that we can contact them. Seating will be limited and on a first come, first served basis.    

    Dec. 17th the Christmas Party with YES! at CiCi’s Pizza  2:30 to 5:30 on North Dale Mabry Hwy behind Wendy’s and near Bed Bath and Beyond.  We will have soup, salad, pizza, and sodas for $5.  We are asking again for a freewill tipfor our server like in Nov.  It will be a gift exchange of a gift of $5.  Mark your calendar and please rsvp for this event.

    As you can see the new location is finalized and we are partnering with Suncoast New Options at their location.  You can call and sign up for classes.  We are still working on our satellite office on 56th and Hillsborough with Helping Hands.  Don’t forget our new partner I Can Adult Literary.  If you need help with reading or math we can help you. 

    Nov. 15 to Dec. 15.YES! is requesting your help!!!!  We are participating in the Magic days of caring at the Westshore Mall and University Mall.  If you are doing your shopping at one of these malls take your receipts to the information centers and ask that your receipts be added to the YES! of America list.  We are getting a late start but if we can get into the top 10 there is money for YES!  Also there are bonus points in The Tampa Tribune so watch for these ads.  The points work with any receipt for an additional 250 points.  It is a win/win situation.  This promotional goes from Nov. 15 to Dec. 15.  If you have any receipts during that time please turn them in for YES!     Dec.18th is Turkey Day delivery.  Those who have signed up for their holiday meal with YES! must be home to receive their turkey.  We will have gifts also.  Some will be delivered but the rest we are hoping you will pick up at Paula’s by appointment.  She will be calling you if you have a lot of presents that need to be picked up for your consumers or individuals.

    Dec. 20th Tentatively set for YES! I can Educate meeting if YES! can arrange insurance individuals to and share the advantages of their individual company policies for the next year. 

    YES! will be closed Dec. 21st. until the new year starts in Jan.  We will be checking our emails and phone messages but will not have classes until the first of the year.
